The meeting was attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II.

The King stressed the importance of providing technical support programs to enable the public and private sectors to benefit from available climate finance sources and carbon-emissions reduction tools, with the aim of adopting best environmental practices in line with national and global climate and environmental targets.

He also highlighted the importance of climate finance in strengthening efforts to achieve environmental and sustainable development goals.

During the meeting, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan briefed the King on progress in climate finance, including Jordan securing $295 million in funding from the Green Climate Fund for the National Water Carrier Project. The funding is the largest the fund has provided for a single project.

Jordan has also been selected to host the Green Climate Fund’s regional representative office for the Middle East, Central Asia and Eastern Europe.

Green finance aims to direct resources toward economic activities that contribute to environmental protection and pollution reduction, while climate finance focuses on addressing climate change, cutting emissions and adapting to its impacts, thereby contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals.

Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, Director of the Royal Hashemite Court Alaa Al-Batayneh and Environment Minister Ayman Suleiman attended the meeting.
