Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Monday chaired a meeting of the Arab ministerial committee tasked with international action to counter illegal Israeli policies and measures in occupied Jerusalem.

The meeting was held at the headquarters of the Arab League on the sidelines of the 166th regular session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level.
The meeting discussed developments in Jerusalem and reaffirmed that East Jerusalem is occupied Palestinian territory, stressing that its final status cannot be determined through unilateral measures or the imposition of facts on the ground.
The ministers warned against any alteration of the historical and legal status quo at Islamic holy sites, particularly Al-Haram Al-Sharif/Al-Aqsa Mosque, or the imposition of any temporal or spatial division within the site.
Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for the Hashemite Custodianship over the holy sites in Jerusalem and expressed appreciation for Jordan’s role in protecting them and preserving the existing status quo.
Abdelatty condemned Israeli policies and practices targeting Jerusalemites, including settlement expansion, land confiscation, home demolitions, attempts at forced displacement and the isolation of East Jerusalem from its Palestinian surroundings.
He also condemned the implementation of the E1 settlement project, which he said undermines the geographical contiguity of the Palestinian territories and prospects for establishing a viable Palestinian state.
Abdelatty also warned of the continued systematic Israeli targeting of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), its institutions and staff. He called on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities to protect the agency and ensure that it can continue carrying out its mandate.
He further called on countries that have announced plans to move their embassies to Jerusalem to reconsider their positions, saying such moves contravene international legitimacy resolutions.
