Key Highlights from the Statement:
Support for UN80 Initiative: Harahsheh voiced Jordan’s support for the UN Secretary-General’s "UN80" initiative. He stressed that its outcomes must provide real solutions to the financial crisis, increase organizational efficiency, and address the aspirations of the youth—the largest demographic group—while navigating the challenges of emerging technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Global Human Rights Alliance: Jordan welcomed the High Commissioner for Human Rights' efforts to launch a Global Alliance for Human Rights, expressing readiness to collaborate closely with his office.
Candidacy for the Human Rights Council: In a significant diplomatic move, Harahsheh announced that Jordan has submitted its candidacy for membership in the Human Rights Council for the 2027–2029 term. Elections are scheduled to take place during the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly this coming October.
Humanity in War Conference: The Ambassador announced that Jordan will host a high-level conference titled "Humanity in War" late this year. This conference is a result of a joint initiative by Jordan, Brazil, South Africa, China, France, and Kazakhstan, in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
Universal Principles
Ambassador Harahsheh concluded by asserting that human dignity must remain at the heart of international action, regardless of location or circumstance. He underscored that human rights are non-selective, unconditional, universal, and indivisible.
He noted that as the Council marks its 20th anniversary, it continues to serve as a vital platform for international cooperation, documentation, and capacity building, reinforcing the importance of partnership to enhance its global impact.
