Minister of Transport Nidal Qatamin discussed with Social Security Corporation Director General Hazem Al-Rahahleh, in the presence of Land Transport Regulatory Commission Director General Riyad Al-Kharabsheh, mechanisms for bringing workers in the app-based transport sector under the social security umbrella.

The move aims to strengthen social protection for workers and safeguard their rights in accordance with applicable legislative and regulatory frameworks.
Qatamin stressed the importance of providing social security coverage for app-based transport workers, describing them as an important part of Jordan’s modern transport system. He emphasized the need to develop an appropriate mechanism for including them in social security while taking into account the nature of app-based work and ensuring adequate social protection.
In a separate meeting, Qatamin met Uber Global Head of Business Madhu Kannan, in the presence of Al-Kharabsheh. The two sides discussed extending social security coverage to Uber workers in Jordan and explored mechanisms for cooperation and coordination to reach an appropriate framework that complies with applicable legislation and reflects the nature of app-based work.
Uber expressed a positive stance toward discussing the issue and its readiness to engage with the relevant authorities on possible mechanisms for bringing its workers under the social security umbrella, contributing to enhanced social protection.
Qatamin underscored the importance of continued coordination among relevant authorities and companies operating in the app-based transport sector to develop practical solutions that protect workers’ rights, support the sector’s regulation and development, and keep pace with rapidly evolving transport and employment patterns.
The meetings are part of the Ministry of Transport’s efforts to develop the app-based transport system, strengthen social protection for workers in the sector, and improve the level of services provided to citizens.
