AMMAN — In a remarkable move, the Jordan Bar Association announced its submission of a complaint to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), in conjunction with Arab human rights organizations. This action was coordinated with the Arab Lawyers Union and in collaboration with the French lawyer Gilles Devers. The complaint targets leaders and individuals from the Israeli occupation state, accusing them of committing genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.اضافة اعلان

Yahya Abu Aboud, the head of the Jordanian Bar Association, stated that a legal team had been dispatched to The Hague, Netherlands, the headquarters of the International Criminal Court. They carried with them a comprehensive dossier of documents and evidence to support their accusation of "acts constituting genocide committed in the State of Palestine,” Jo24 reported.

Abu Aboud emphasized that this complaint marks the first of its kind to be submitted before the court. It serves as an official announcement of the commencement of legal proceedings against Israeli occupation leaders, both politically and militarily.

He explained that the Jordanian Bar Association (JBA) had diligently collected documentation and evidence during the previous period of aggression in Gaza. They aimed to compile a thorough case to present before the International Criminal Court, initiating formal investigations.

The head of the bar stressed that the lawyers grounded their lawsuit against the Israeli entity on the precedent set by South Africa's lawsuit. This step, he noted, aligns with the decisions of the previous Jordanian Bar Association council, as well as the resolutions of the permanent bureau of the Arab Lawyers Union in Amman, and those arising from the Algiers Declaration (the International Alliance for Legal Support for the Palestinian People).

Abu Aboud added that the complaint would undergo scrutiny by the prosecutor general. There would be a meeting with the prosecutor general and the court's body within the next two or three weeks to follow up on the complaint. Notable figures included in the complaint are Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Galant, and others from the Israeli occupation leadership.

The international team involved comprises the Jordanian, Palestinian, Algerian, Tunisian, and Mauritanian Bar Associations, as well as the National Union of Algerian Judges.

On another note, Dr. Anis Qasim, an international law expert, commended the lawsuit filed by the Bar Association against the leaders of the Israeli enemy. However, he emphasized the importance of forming an international alliance among all bar associations in the Arab world. This alliance would work alongside representatives of countries in the meetings of the General Assembly of the States Parties to the Rome Statute. Their objective would be to remove the current Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, due to concerns regarding his lack of objectivity and his biased stance towards the Israeli occupation.

Qasim further explained to Al Jazeera Net that International Prosecutor Karim Khan had lost credibility and neutrality. The statements made by Israeli leaders, he argued, were sufficient to convict them under the International Court of Justice, given the demonstration of criminal intent. However, Khan has yet to take the required steps.
