The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Tourism and Antiquities, MP Wasfi Haddad, who is also a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the coordinating member of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO), strongly condemned the Israeli occupation authorities’ actions in freezing the bank accounts of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate in occupied Jerusalem, describing the measures as dangerous and arbitrary.

In a statement issued by the Committee on Sunday, Haddad said that this move is part of a systematic policy targeting the Palestinian people as a whole, and particularly the Christian community and the indigenous people of Jerusalem. He emphasized that these actions represent a blatant violation of religious freedom and an attack on church institutions, undermining their spiritual, humanitarian, and charitable roles, in clear violation of international norms and conventions.
Haddad revealed his intention to address the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy, which includes 25 member parliaments from around the world, to inform them about these violations and mobilize international parliamentary support to halt them. He called on the international community, including parliaments, churches, and human rights organizations, to take urgent action to protect Christian and Islamic holy sites and to preserve the historic and spiritual identity of Jerusalem.
He also reaffirmed his support for the official Jordanian position, as expressed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and government decisions, in confronting these violations. He noted that this reflects Jordan’s unwavering commitment under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II to protect holy sites, preserve Jerusalem’s identity, and support the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
