AMMAN — Director General of
Arabian Environment Technology (AET) Ahmed Al-Smadi said a private sector
company started operating a desalination plant in the city of
Aqaba; it
desalinates 450 cubic meters per day,
according to Ammon News.

Smadi said that the plant reduce
water salinity to less than 500 parts per million, down from 50,000 parts per
million.
He added that this project, the
first of its kind, will help meet Jordanians’ water needs.
The process of desalination, he
said, is based on reverse osmosis, which uses pressure to push water through
special membranes.
