Jordan hosted a meeting on Sunday between Syrian and Israeli officials to discuss de-escalation and efforts to restore calm, following a Syrian request, an official source told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) on Monday.

The meeting came after Israeli strikes on Syrian territory last week and amid rising tensions in southern Syria.
The source reaffirmed Jordan’s condemnation of Israeli attacks on Syria, describing them as a blatant violation of international law and a dangerous escalation. Jordan also stressed its full support for the Syrian government’s efforts to protect the country’s security, stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The source called for an immediate halt to Israeli attacks on Syria, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Syrian territory and respect for the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement.
Details of the Meeting
Earlier, Syria’s state news agency SANA quoted a source as saying that a high-level Syrian delegation led by Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani, including the heads of the General Intelligence Directorate and Military Intelligence, held talks with a “high-level Israeli delegation.”
The meeting was mediated by the United States and hosted by Jordan to discuss de-escalation following the latest Israeli strikes on Syrian territory and growing tensions in southern Syria.
Syria reiterated its position that the occupied Golan Heights is Syrian territory, saying that discussing its final status and the path toward resolving it remains premature at this stage.
According to SANA, Syria’s immediate priorities are the withdrawal of Israeli forces to the lines that existed before December 8, 2024, and the reactivation and full implementation of the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement.
The meeting also addressed ways to support Syria’s stability and regional security, including efforts to bridge differences between Türkiye and Israel and ensure that tensions between the two countries do not spill over onto Syrian territory.
