Palestinian sources said large numbers of Israeli occupation army forces raided and surrounded the two areas, forcing dozens of Palestinians to leave their homes.
On Friday, Israeli occupation forces demolished a three-apartment residential building in the Farsh Al-Hawa area west of Hebron. They sealed off the area and its main entrance, the only route connecting the city to the bypass road, preventing Palestinians and their vehicles from entering or leaving. All entrances and roads leading to Hebron were also closed.
On Friday evening, the Israeli occupation army announced the launch of a military operation in the West Bank that would last several days, coinciding with raids on Palestinian cities and towns, including Hebron, Nablus, Tubas, the northern town of Aqaba, and Qalqilya.
In a statement, the Israeli army said the operation was targeting dozens of areas across the West Bank. It said the operation in Hebron was focused on searching the area from which the perpetrators of the Hebron attack had launched their operation, in an effort to uncover weapons and infrastructure, with the participation of the Israeli Shin Bet security service and Border Guard forces.
The army added that residents in the operation areas would be allowed to leave through three designated routes after undergoing searches and security questioning.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his government was considering launching a large-scale military operation in the occupied West Bank, potentially the largest since the 1967 war, following an attack near Hebron that killed two Israeli soldiers and wounded others.
During a visit to Hebron, Netanyahu said the proposed operation would include evacuating residents from the neighborhood where the attackers had launched their operation, searching homes and destroying what he described as “terrorist infrastructure.” He said no date had yet been set for the operation.
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called for a large-scale operation in the West Bank modeled on military operations in the Gaza Strip, demanding the dismantling of the Palestinian Authority and the collection of weapons. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir also called for dismantling the Palestinian Authority and disarming it.
