Minister of Transport and Minister of Labor Dr. Nidal Al-Qatamin said that empowering and employing persons with disabilities is among the top priorities of the Ministry of Labor.

Al-Qatamin's remarks came during a meeting held today at the Ministry of Labor's headquarters, attended by MP Dr. Dima Tahboub, Ministry Secretary-General Dr. Abdul Halim Doughan, Acting Secretary-General of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rafat Al-Zaytawi, the Council's Assistant Secretary-General for Technical Affairs Ghadeer Al-Haris, Assistant Director-General for Insurance at the Social Security Corporation Shaman Al-Majali, and Engineer Ihab Al-Qadri, representative of the Jordan Chamber of Industry.
He affirmed that the national employment platform "Sijil" at the Ministry of Labor will be developed and linked to the data of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, enabling working-age persons with disabilities to provide the platform with their data, the type of disability for each person, and the nature of work suited to their disability. He added that private sector establishments will be asked to post job opportunities suited to persons with disabilities on the platform.
Al-Qatamin stressed the necessity of coordinating with all parties concerned with the affairs of persons with disabilities, such as the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the private sector, and Social Security, to provide an integrated and clear database showing all the details of each person with a disability, along with the need to make use of the data of those who have been issued identification cards by the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, with the aim of providing training, rehabilitation, and employment for these citizens.
The Minister instructed Ministry of Labor staff to cooperate with all partner entities to provide an integrated database for persons with disabilities and to provide them with suitable job opportunities according to each person's disability, in addition to strengthening inspection oversight to ensure private sector establishments comply with the employment quotas stipulated by law.
For her part, MP Dima Tahboub praised the Minister of Labor and the Ministry's swift response in handling the file of persons with disabilities and finding practical, applicable solutions to empower and employ them.
Tahboub stressed the importance of combining reward and penalty in dealing with this file with respect to private sector establishments, noting that providing incentives to establishments that comply with the employment quotas for persons with disabilities may yield better results than imposing penalties.
Those present agreed to cooperate in starting to build a detailed database for persons with disabilities, and to make use of the data available with the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to empower and employ them in the private sector.
