Jordan has achieved a 10.7-percentage-point cumulative reduction in water losses nationwide for the fourth consecutive year, bringing the Kingdom’s overall water loss rate down to 41%, according to Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Al-Saud.
The minister announced the achievement Monday at the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, in the presence of representatives of the U.S. government, senior ministry and Water Authority officials, as well as the chief executives of the Kingdom’s water companies.
The cumulative reduction compares with 2022 levels and exceeds the government’s annual target of reducing water losses by 2 percentage points nationwide.
The achievement represents an important step toward Jordan’s broader goal of reducing water losses to 25% by 2040, in line with the National Water Strategy.
Abu Al-Saud said that achieving the water-loss reduction targets for the fourth consecutive year reflects Jordan’s commitment to building a resilient and sustainable water sector, adding that every drop of water saved brings the country closer to long-term water security.
He also said the progress is not merely a technical achievement, but provides a foundation for securing crucial support for the National Water Carrier Project.
The minister expressed appreciation for the efforts of employees across the water sector and thanked the U.S. government, international institutions, donors and development partners for their continued support.
He stressed that maintaining this momentum through the direct and systematic implementation of strategic water infrastructure projects and the modernization of water companies remains a top priority.
Continued U.S. government support, along with vital contributions from donors and international partners, is expected to play a key role in advancing strategic water infrastructure projects and strengthening Jordan’s water security.
