According to Israeli news outlets, landing zones were designated at several hospitals in Israel following the Gaza operation, indicating the scale and severity of the event. The Israeli Home Front Command also reported renewed sirens sounding in the Gaza envelope area.

Hebrew sources confirmed that a fourth explosive device and light weapon fire targeted those injured in the initial attack, describing the event as a “well-planned ambush” set up for soldiers in northern Gaza.

At least five Israeli soldiers were killed, and ten others were wounded, in a large-scale operation carried out by the Palestinian resistance in Beit Hanoun, northern Gaza. Another soldier remains missing, according to Hebrew media reports released around midnight Monday–Tuesday.

The incident began when resistance fighters detonated an explosive device beneath an armored vehicle carrying soldiers. They then fired an anti-tank missile at an ammunition-loaded robot that was being deployed.

The resistance also targeted the Israeli rescue team that rushed to the site. Residents in Ashkelon reported hearing the “massive explosion,” and one of the wounded was reportedly a senior officer.

The targeted soldiers belonged to the elite Yahalom engineering unit, known for placing and detonating explosives inside Palestinian homes in Gaza.

Israeli helicopters arrived at the scene to evacuate the wounded under heavy gunfire. The situation was described by Hebrew media as chaotic and ongoing, with one soldier still unaccounted for and several military vehicles engulfed in flames.

Hebrew media later described the event as an “unusually difficult and exceptional security incident” in northern Gaza. Two soldiers were initially reported killed and 16 injured, including four in critical condition. The rescue force that responded was also hit.

Two distinct events reportedly occurred in Beit Hanoun:

An explosive device targeted an armored vehicle carrying soldiers.

An ammunition-loaded robot was struck while being prepared.

One of the injured was confirmed to be a senior officer. The incident targeted soldiers from the Nahal Brigade, which had only recently taken over control of northern Gaza.

Resistance attacks have escalated significantly in recent weeks, leading to dozens of Israeli military casualties. June was reported as the deadliest month for the Israeli military, with 20 soldiers and officers killed, according to Hebrew media.

Ten days ago, the Israeli army confirmed the deaths of a senior officer and six soldiers during battles in southern Gaza, following earlier reports of a complex ambush in Khan Younis that resulted in four soldiers killed and 17 wounded.

Last week, Palestinian resistance forces carried out three operations within three hours targeting the Israeli 98th Division in Shuja’iyya, northern Gaza. The attacks killed one soldier and injured eight from the elite Egoz unit, including three critically.
