Syria’s state-run news channel said that what it described as “rebellious gangs” in Sweida violated the ceasefire and targeted Internal Security Forces positions in the village of Al-Majdal.
This led to renewed clashes between the two sides amid mutual accusations of ceasefire violations on the outskirts of the town.

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that some Internal Security Forces sites in the town of Walgha, west of the province, had come under attack from “armed groups.”

Security officials confirmed that service facilities in the town of Al-Mazraa, as well as Internal Security Forces posts in Al-Majdal, were targeted.

Meanwhile, groups calling themselves the “National Guard” said that Al-Majdal was subjected to a “large-scale attack” that lasted more than an hour, during which armed groups launched assaults from several directions using medium and heavy weapons and drones.

The committee investigating the Sweida events is scheduled to hold a press conference Sunday evening to present its findings so far, amid renewed tensions and accusations of ceasefire violations.

Committee spokesperson Ammar Ezzedine stated that the conference will outline the committee’s working methodology and the steps taken over the past three months in accordance with legal standards, in addition to presenting upcoming measures.

On July 31, Syria’s Ministry of Justice formed a special committee to investigate the events in Sweida with the aim of identifying legal responsibilities and referring those involved to the judiciary.
