Ongoing vote counting showed Netanyahu’s bloc maintaining a lead over the opposition led by Eisenkot, but without securing the majority needed to form a government.

According to data from the Central Elections Committee, with 88.6% of the votes counted, Netanyahu’s bloc had won 53 seats, compared with 48 for the Zionist opposition and 19 for the two Arab lists.

Hebrew media reported that around 96% of the votes in the Knesset election had been counted, with no changes in the announced results so far.

The Central Elections Committee said voter turnout in the Israeli election reached 77.7%, the highest level recorded since the 1999 election.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had said he was waiting for the final election results, stressing that they would show Likud as the largest party in Israel and that the right-wing bloc had a decisive majority. He added: “A strong national government must be formed.”
