Syrian Foreign Minister Assad Al-Sheibani said on Saturday that negotiations are currently underway regarding Russian military bases in Syria. He emphasized that Syria seeks to reach a security agreement with Israel that “takes into account its security concerns” without ceding any part of Syrian territory.

In a televised interview, Al-Sheibani added that the Syrian and Russian sides discussed all matters, including the fate of former President Bashar al-Assad and fleeing officers, during Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shara’s visit to Moscow, as well as future relations and cooperation prospects once outstanding disagreements are resolved.
Al-Sheibani stressed Syria’s rejection of any form of division or federalism and expressed regret over the absence of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) within state institutions, stating that their absence “deepens the divide” between them and the government.
The Foreign Minister said Israel has attempted to impose a new reality and pursue an expansionist agenda by exploiting changes in Syria, describing Israeli practices as “reinforcing instability in our country.” He reaffirmed Syria’s insistence on the withdrawal of Israeli forces to positions held before December 8 of last year.
Al-Sheibani announced Syria’s desire to reach a security agreement that does not undermine Syrian sovereignty, takes into account what he called “Israeli and Syrian security concerns,” and respects the safety of both countries. He stressed that Syria is not willing to concede any inch of its territory.
The Syrian Foreign Minister also expressed hopes to ease tensions with Israel so that such issues do not hinder Syria’s reconstruction and stabilization process.
