Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated on Monday that his country will not regain trust in its institutions until the path of justice is fully completed.

Speaking on the sixth anniversary of the Beirut Port explosion, Aoun said: "On this day every year, all of Lebanon stands before a wound that has not healed and a memory that has not faded. We recall the horror of that moment when Beirut shook to its core, as the port—the lifeblood of the city and its economy—turned into the stage of a tragedy unprecedented in our modern history."
He continued: "It was an explosive moment that changed the face of the capital, claiming innocent lives, leaving hundreds injured, and causing destruction that struck stone before reaching hearts."
Aoun emphasized: "This anniversary is not merely a moment of mourning, but a permanent reminder of a duty that is not subject to a statute of limitations: the duty of truth, justice, and accountability. The wound will not heal, and the nation will not regain trust in its institutions, unless the path of justice is carried out to its end."
He added: "From this standpoint, I affirm that the issuance of the indictment by the judicial investigator has become an urgent necessity that can tolerate no further delay. Justice does not mean revenge; rather, it means upholding right, revealing the whole and uncompromised truth, and holding accountable everyone who neglected, defaulted on duties, or caused this disaster, regardless of their position or title. Justice cannot be divided, and no one is exempt from the authority of the law."
Aoun stressed: "Today, more than ever, the Lebanese judiciary is called upon to prove its independence and its ability to grant justice to the victims. The indictment is not merely a legal procedure; it is a right of the martyrs over the living, and a right of their families who have waited long for their children's souls to rest, bringing an end to their suffering through the complete knowledge of the truth."
He concluded: "As we stand today before this painful memory, we renew the pledge that a state of law is the sole guarantee to prevent the recurrence of such a tragedy. Lebanon, which has shown resilience in the darkest times, is capable of emerging stronger from its ordeal once complete justice is achieved and every citizen feels that their blood and dignity are safeguarded under the law."
