Several explosions were heard in Tehran early Thursday morning, according to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, as Iranian air defenses were activated.
The explosions occurred after Iran launched a new wave of missiles toward Israel earlier on Thursday.
Israel and the United States have been carrying out airstrikes on Iran since Saturday, which resulted in the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Since then, Tehran has responded by striking Israel and countries in the region with missiles and drones.
Iran has also imposed a naval blockade on ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and targeted oil tankers attempting to pass through it.
On Sunday, Hezbollah fired several rockets from Lebanon toward northern Israel in response to Khamenei’s assassination, drawing Lebanon into an open war with Israel. In response, Israel carried out devastating airstrikes on southern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut.
