U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he has ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines to “appropriate areas” in response to threatening remarks by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

In a post on his platform Truth Social, Trump wrote:
“I have ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines to appropriate locations in case these foolish and provocative statements turn out to be more than just words. Words matter a lot and can often lead to unintended consequences. I hope this is not one of those cases.”
Medvedev had recently warned Trump to "remember that Moscow retains nuclear capabilities dating back to the Soviet era, which it considers its last resort," amid an intensifying war of words between the two.
On Monday, Medvedev cautioned that Trump’s "threats" were escalating tensions toward a war with Russia — not just with Ukraine. He added that the U.S. president should understand Russia is "not Israel, not even Iran."
President Trump is also currently considering secondary sanctions on Russia — specifically targeting countries that purchase Russian oil — in an effort to cut off one of Moscow's main sources of funding for its war effort.
Since returning to office in January, Trump has expressed a willingness to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin and criticized the large-scale aid provided to Ukraine under President Joe Biden. However, Putin’s lack of responsiveness to Trump’s peace overtures — particularly his refusal to agree to a ceasefire sought by Kyiv and Washington — has reportedly left Trump “disappointed.” – (Agencies)
