Water Ministry Launches Project to Enhance Cybersecurity in Line with ISO Standards
The Ministry of Water and Irrigation on Sunday launched a project to enhance cybersecurity in accordance with the ISO/IEC 27001 standard, during a workshop titled “Providing Audit Requirements for the First Phase of Obtaining ISO/IEC 27001 Certification in Jordan’s Water Sector.” The workshop was attended by representatives of water companies and a number of stakeholders.اضافة اعلان

Secretary-General of the Water Authority, Engineer Sufian Al-Batayneh, said the project aims to support the water sector in adopting the standard in order to protect sensitive information within institutions from the risks of cyberattacks and various threats. He added that the initiative seeks to strengthen cybersecurity and realize the Water Authority’s vision of building a secure and sustainable operational system.

He noted that the project represents an important strategic step reflecting the Ministry of Water and Irrigation / Water Authority’s commitment to enhancing institutional governance, protecting information and digital assets, ensuring business continuity, and boosting confidence in its services. He also praised the efforts of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the support provided by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

For her part, Yasmin Freyschlad, Project Manager for Water Sector Governance at GIZ, emphasized the serious implications of cyber threats and risks. She noted that the launch of the project aims to unify visions, clarify the scope of work and implementation plan, and strengthen cooperation among all partners to ensure information security in this vital sector.

She called for moving beyond general awareness toward adopting international best practices in information security management. (Petra)
