AMMAN — The Biden administration is pressuring Israel to make good on its pledge to operate what Israel calls the Allenby Bridge border crossing between the West Bank and Jordan 24/7, as Israeli officials acknowledge that the Israeli government will not meet the planned September 30 deadline to do so, according to Israel’s Walla news site.اضافة اعلان

The report said that US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan raised the matter with Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz during their meeting in Washington last week, after American Ambassador to Israel Tom Nides pressed Israeli Transportation Minister Merav Michaeli.

The news site added that US pressure and frustration has led to a blame game between Israel’s transportation and defense ministries, with each claiming not to be responsible for the September 30 deadline.

Jordan and the Palestinian Authority have blamed Israel for the overcrowding at the King Hussein Bridge last month as travelers, mostly Palestinians, attempted to cross the bridge in either direction.
