In a radio interview, he explained that around 40,000–50,000 citizens operate outside the regulatory framework, which calls for reconsidering this sector to ensure public interest.
Al-Kharabsheh noted that the new system allows the licensing of new companies and the issuance of additional permits, giving unlicensed companies a six-month grace period to adjust their status. He stressed that licensing will also include the provision of additional insurance for drivers by the companies.
He pointed out that the licensing fee for app-based companies is set at 100 dinars, in addition to a financial guarantee of 100,000 dinars. He also announced the upcoming launch of a dedicated app for yellow taxis without financial obligations, exempting their drivers from the 400-dinar permit fee. Yellow taxis currently account for 40% of app-based rides.
He added that competition has positively impacted the quality of yellow taxi services, while the new system will reduce the commission rate on rides from 30% to only 10%. This change will benefit both drivers and passengers, while allowing companies to gain greater value from operating legally.
Al-Kharabsheh further confirmed that the operational lifespan of vehicles used in ride-hailing apps will be limited to seven years, a demand jointly voiced by drivers in the sector.
