Minister of Health Ibrahim Al-Bdeir has launched a plan aimed at resolving the issue of patient overcrowding at hospital and comprehensive health center pharmacies. The plan will begin implementation in Amman before being rolled out to the rest of the governorates.

Al-Bdeir explained that the initiative came in response to observations made during field visits to hospitals and health centers, which revealed a clear congestion at pharmacy counters, as well as crowding at medical records and billing desks.
A study was conducted on patient patterns, medication types, and peak times. Results showed that around 50% of pharmacy visitors are patients collecting monthly prescriptions for chronic conditions, and that congestion peaks between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
Based on these findings, the ministry decided to activate a home delivery service for chronic medications via the “Hakeem” application, enabling patients or their family members to install the app and request their medications to be delivered directly to their homes for a symbolic fee of 2 dinars, eliminating the need to visit pharmacy counters.
To refine the concept, a trial awareness campaign was conducted last month in three comprehensive health centers in Amman. After reviewing feedback and confirming the success of the pilot, it was decided to expand the service to all hospitals and comprehensive centers in Amman starting early December.
Volunteers will be stationed at Al-Bashir Hospital, Dr. Jamil Al-Totanji Hospital, and all comprehensive centers in Amman to assist in explaining and installing the Hakeem app for patients.
Additionally, dedicated service hours for chronic prescription holders have been scheduled:
Hospitals (Al-Bashir and Al-Totanji): 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Comprehensive health centers: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Al-Bdeir also emphasized the need to strengthen drug inventory in hospital and comprehensive center pharmacies and instructed that sufficient quantities of medications for chronic illnesses be provided to ensure continuous availability.
He confirmed that this measure is part of a broader effort to enhance the quality of pharmaceutical services, reduce burdens on patients, and reinforce confidence in the healthcare services offered across Ministry of Health facilities.
