Telecommunications Regulatory Commission to Launch “Postal Entrepreneurship” Initiative on Wednesday and Celebrate World Post Day
The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) will celebrate World Post Day next Wednesday, which will include the launch of the “Postal Entrepreneurship” initiative. The celebration comes after a two-year suspension due to the Israeli war on Gaza, as the TRC had stopped marking World Post Day since October 2023.اضافة اعلان

According to information received by Al-Mamlaka TV, the event aims to highlight the postal sector and emphasize the vital role of postal companies in delivering services to beneficiaries efficiently and with high quality.

Jordan joins the rest of the world every year on October 9 in celebrating World Post Day, which marks the anniversary of the founding of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). This year’s theme is “Post for People: Local Service, Global Reach.”

Regarding the “Postal Entrepreneurship” initiative, the TRC explained that it targets Jordanian university students to raise awareness of the importance of the postal sector and open new horizons for them in innovation and entrepreneurship.

According to a 2024 annual report by the TRC, Jordan has 176 licensed postal operators, including 163 domestic private operators, 12 international private operators, and one public operator (Jordan Post Company).

Lara Al-Khatib, Chairperson of the TRC Board of Commissioners, stated in an earlier remark that the commission launched a regionally pioneering initiative to encourage university youth to innovate in delivering advanced postal services, enhance their awareness of the sector’s importance, and open new paths in entrepreneurship and innovation.

The initiative includes interactive training programs, field visits, and meetings with postal industry experts, in addition to promoting innovation in delivery services, creating new job opportunities in the postal sector—especially amid the rapid growth of e-commerce—and fostering eco-friendly business models to enable students to explore sustainable, green projects in postal entrepreneurship.

The initiative will be implemented through several university programs, including:

“Ask the Postal Expert” program

“My Entrepreneurial Project” program

“Career Day” program

The celebration will also feature an exhibition with the participation of several postal service providers.

The Postal Market in Jordan

Jordan’s postal market consists of two types of operators providing various postal services:

The public postal operator, represented by Jordan Post Company, which is fully owned by the government.

Private postal operators, defined under the Postal Services Law No. 5 of 2002 and its amendments as any person who delivers private postal items for a fee.

In September 2025, Jordan won a seat on the Universal Postal Union’s Administrative Council, following a vote that included 192 member countries.

Growth in E-Commerce

E-commerce in Jordan has witnessed remarkable growth, with the number of parcels received through e-commerce platforms reaching around 1.7 million in 2023, a 70% increase compared to 2022, according to data from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Meanwhile, TRC figures show that the total number of international postal items handled in Jordan reached approximately 2.7 million in 2024.
