Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi participated in the annual coordinating meeting of foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states, held on Friday on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

In his speech, Safadi emphasized the need for the international community to act to stop Israeli aggression in Gaza, halt the dangerous Israeli escalation in the occupied West Bank, and end Israeli attacks in the region, which threaten regional and international security and peace.
He affirmed that protecting Al-Aqsa Mosque / the Noble Sanctuary, as well as Islamic and Christian holy sites, and preserving the Arab-Islamic and Christian identity of Jerusalem, is a Jordanian priority that His Majesty King Abdullah II fully dedicates the Kingdom’s resources to, based on the historic Hashemite custodianship of these sites.
Safadi stressed the importance of the role of the Jerusalem Awqaf Department and the Administration of Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs under the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf, which is the legally authorized body with exclusive responsibility for managing all affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque / the Noble Sanctuary.
He reiterated that Jordan continues to confront Israeli violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque / the Noble Sanctuary, documenting them and regularly informing the OIC.
Safadi also highlighted that protecting Jerusalem and its holy sites and confronting Israeli violations is a collective responsibility, emphasizing the importance of joint action by OIC member states in safeguarding the holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.
During his visit, Safadi held bilateral meetings with Arab and foreign counterparts, UN officials, and international representatives.
He held extensive talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov focused on strengthening friendship and cooperation between the two countries and regional developments. They agreed on the necessity of concerted efforts to reach an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, implement a prisoner exchange agreement to end the unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe caused and exacerbated by the aggression, ensure sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid to all parts of Gaza, and stop dangerous Israeli escalation in the occupied West Bank and the region.
Safadi also met with Dominican Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments, signing an agreement exempting holders of diplomatic and official passports from visa requirements between the two friendly countries.
Additionally, Safadi held separate talks with Cypriot Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos and Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Yerabitetis on enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation within the EU framework and on issues of mutual interest. He also participated in a trilateral meeting with his Cypriot and Greek counterparts under the tripartite cooperation mechanism, reaffirming their joint commitment to strengthening friendship and trilateral cooperation across various fields, in line with the directives of the three countries’ leaders.
Safadi met with European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness, and Crisis Management Haja Habib to discuss enhancing strategic partnership between Jordan and the EU and regional developments. He stressed the urgent need to halt Israeli aggression on Gaza and open crossings for humanitarian aid delivery.
He also met with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher to discuss enhancing cooperation in delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the partnership between Jordan and the UN and increasing joint cooperation.
