The United States has lifted terrorism-related sanctions imposed on two aircraft and three airlines linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to details published on Wednesday on the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s website.
The published information did not provide further details regarding the reasons for the sanctions relief or the timing of the decision.
Earlier, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington had shifted from what he described as an “epic military campaign of anger” to an “economic campaign of anger” aimed at curbing the influence of the Iranian regime.
Bessent added that the United States is pursuing Iranian assets around the world, stressing that proceeds from confiscated Iranian assets would be directed to the Iranian people.
Previously, the Treasury Department imposed sanctions on the Iranian cryptocurrency exchange Nobitex, along with two other digital asset platforms, accusing them of facilitating transactions linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and helping Iran evade international sanctions.
The department said Nobitex processed more than half of Iran’s digital asset flows in 2025, while blockchain analytics firm TRM Labs estimated that the platform handled approximately $5 billion in transactions between 2025 and March 2026. The sanctions also targeted the exchange’s founders and its current chief executive.
The move comes as Iran’s cryptocurrency market has expanded significantly, with digital assets increasingly being used by Iranian entities to conduct financial transactions amid sanctions and the country’s isolation from the global financial system.
