Husam Abu Ali, the General Manager of the Income and Sales Tax Department (ISTD), stated that the total revenue from income and sales taxes from the beginning of this year until the end of September amounted to JD4.7 billion. This marks an increase of about JD300 million compared to the approximately JD4.4 billion collected in the same period in 2022, reflecting a growth rate of 6.5 percent, the Jordan News Agency, Petra reported.

This increase encompasses both income tax and sales tax, with income tax and national contributions amounting to approximately JD1.571 billion, compared to around JD1.334 billion during the same period in 2022, indicating an 18 percent growth rate, as noted by Ali.

He further added that the rise in tax revenue is attributed to not only the growth in economic activity within local economic sectors but also to the effectiveness of the reform programs implemented by ISTD. These programs focus on combatting tax evasion and avoidance, enhancing voluntary compliance among taxpayers, and utilizing artificial intelligence for tax auditing while adopting best international practices in auditing, inspection, and tax collection.

Abu Ali emphasized that these reforms have enhanced the efficiency of the tax system, promoted tax justice, increased tax revenue, and addressed the structural imbalance between direct and indirect taxes.

ISTD holds the distinction of being the first department to implement artificial intelligence in electronic tax auditing. This innovation has expedited the completion of tax audit procedures and the swift identification of tax discrepancies. This program is part of a comprehensive package of electronic programs aimed at modernizing and enhancing the efficiency of ISTD's tasks and duties, following the successful provision of 63 electronic tax services and the implementation of the national electronic invoicing program.
