Civil Status Department: Electronic Passport Does Not Currently Include Temporary Passports
Director General of Civil Status and Passports, Ghaith Al-Tayeb, announced that the electronic passport, which will be implemented at the beginning of next year, will initially be issued only to Jordanians holding national ID numbers. Temporary passports for residents of the West Bank will be included at a later stage.اضافة اعلان

Al-Tayeb explained that the restriction to national ID holders is due to the availability of biometric data—such as fingerprints and iris scans—for these individuals in the Civil Status and Passports system. Once biometric data for West Bank residents holding temporary passports becomes available, they will also be eligible for electronic passports.

He noted that the electronic passport can be read electronically at airports and border crossings. It contains a chip storing the holder’s fingerprint and iris data, but it can also be scanned traditionally at airports in countries not connected to the International Civil Aviation Organization’s electronic network.

The electronic passport features high-level security measures, making it virtually impossible to counterfeit. Its information page, including the holder’s photo and personal details, will be made of reinforced plastic, while visa pages will be adorned with images of Jordan’s tourist and heritage sites.

Applications for the electronic passport can be submitted via the Sanad app or the Civil Status and Passports website. The electronic passport will carry the same fee as the standard passport, JD 50, with an additional JD 3 delivery fee via the Jordan Post Company.
