Safadi, Blinken underline need to preserve status quo in Jerusalem

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken held talks concerning the dangerous escalation at Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif and efforts to stop it, Ammon News reported on Tuesday.اضافة اعلان

The two ministers discussed, during a phone call, causes of the recent escalation which had led to violence and tensions. The two officials stressed the need to continue coordination and joint work to end the recent escalation and prevent the aggravation of the cycle of violence in order to restore calm.

Safadi stressed the need for Israel to respect the historical and legal status quo in Al-Haram Al-Sharif and to stop all measures that undermine it.

He also valued the position of the US that called for respecting the historical and legal status quo and its efforts to restore calm, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

Safadi stressed the importance of the US position in support of the two-state solution and its efforts to maintain calm and find a real political horizon for resolving the conflict.

For his part, Blinken appreciated the Kingdom’s special role within the framework of the Hashemite Custodianship, and stressed the importance of respecting the historical status quo at Al-Haram Al-Sharif.

Blinken affirmed his country’s commitment to work towards achieving stability in the region, and its support for the two-state solution as a way to resolving the conflict.

Safadi and Blinken underlined the depth of the strategic partnership between the Kingdom and the US, and the continuation of cooperation and coordination in efforts to resolve regional crises and achieve security, stability and peace.
