The Chief Commissioner of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA), Adnan Al-Sawa'er, emphasized the importance of community partnership in boosting tourism and service development in Petra.

This came during his meeting with a number of local community members and academics in the Petra District, as part of the Authority's approach to enhancing direct communication with various community groups and consolidating the principle of partnership to support tourism and economic development in the region. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chief Commissioner, Dr. Shaker Al-Adwan.
Al-Sawa'er affirmed the Authority’s keenness to maintain an open-door policy with the local community and listen to diverse views and suggestions, thereby contributing to service development and achieving sustainable development. He noted that the people of Petra are essential partners in protecting the archaeological site and enhancing its global tourism standing.
He also pointed out the importance of unifying efforts among the Authority, the local community, and the academic and tourism sectors to face current challenges. Working as one team, he added, will reflect positively on the developmental and service realities in the district, emphasizing the Authority’s commitment to involving youth and women in various developmental programs and initiatives.
Al-Sawa'er explained that the Authority has signed a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Environment to serve environmental and developmental issues and to develop public parks and green spaces in the region. Furthermore, the Authority secured 2 million JOD in financial support to develop the Al-Darah area, which will contribute to improving its infrastructure and enhancing its service conditions.
He stressed the importance of developing the Petra College for Tourism and Archaeology and enhancing its academic and training programs to keep pace with the needs of the tourism and archaeological labor market. He also emphasized focusing on practical training and building partnerships with the tourism sector to prepare qualified professionals who can support tourism development in Petra and enhance the college’s international presence.
For his part, the spokesperson for the local community, Mohammad Abbas Al-Nawafleh, stressed the importance of strengthening a genuine partnership between the Authority and the local community to unify efforts for the public interest and support Petra's development journey.
He explained that this community partnership stems from a commitment to the national and local interest and a sense of responsibility to confront challenges, emphasizing the need to stand united against any negative practices that might impact the development process.
Al-Nawafleh highlighted the importance of involving youth and women in the development process, enhancing community outreach, and acting as a supportive arm for the Authority in executing projects and achieving developmental and tourism goals.
The meeting addressed several issues related to developing the tourism and service sectors, including protecting archaeological landmarks, regulating the tourism sector and events, promoting digital transformation and e-services, and linking hotel reservation systems within an integrated digital platform to improve service quality and enhance the overall tourist experience within the region.
