The Ambassador of the European Union to Amman, Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas, affirmed that Jordan is a strategic ally of the EU, emphasizing that His Majesty King Abdullah II is the "most prominent figure in the Middle East" due to his pivotal role in promoting regional stability.

According to a statement from Yarmouk University on Sunday, the Ambassador praised the partnership between Jordan and the EU during his visit to the university and his meeting with its president, Dr. Malik Al-Sharairi. He described the partnership as an advanced international model of cooperation based on shared values and interests, noting that Jordan serves as an essential gateway to understanding the region's complexities.
Humanitarian Coordination and Financial Support
Chatzisavas noted that the EU highly values the coordination with Jordan in defending international humanitarian law, praising the Kingdom's role in facilitating humanitarian corridors to the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
The Ambassador announced a €300 million support package for the Kingdom’s education sector. He also highlighted the EU's intent to invest in strategic projects, most notably the National Water Conveyor and the digital economy, in addition to preparations for holding a European investment conference in Amman soon.
Academic Cooperation at Yarmouk University
For his part, Dr. Al-Sharairi presented the fields of academic cooperation with European institutions, noting the implementation of approximately 24 EU-funded projects with total budgets exceeding €16.1 million, of which the university’s share was nearly €1.97 million.
Key academic milestones (2021–2026) include:
Over 200 students participated in exchange programs to Europe, with a similar number of European students hosted in Jordan.
Capacity building for 170 faculty members and administrative staff.
Projects in renewable energy, green hydrogen, and digital transformation.
Expansion into double-degree programs and joint research to strengthen the university’s role as a major academic partner for the EU.
The Ambassador also participated in a dialogue session organized by the Department of Political and International Studies entitled "European-Jordanian Relations," where discussions focused on maximizing student benefit from European scholarships and supporting Jordanian youth in meeting the demands of the digital and green economies.
