Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yarub Qudah, announced that all Jordanian exports of garments and knitted apparel to the United States will be fully exempt from customs duties under the reciprocal trade agreement signed between the two countries in Washington last Tuesday.
Under the agreement, all categories of Jordanian garments and knitted products will be subject to a zero-tariff rate, reflecting the agreement’s provisions granting the sector more preferential access to the U.S. market. Meanwhile, the United States will reduce the reciprocal tariffs imposed on all other Jordanian goods to 10%.
The move is expected to boost Jordanian exports to the United States, particularly garments and knitted apparel, which remain Jordan’s largest export category to the U.S. During the first four months of this year, exports of these products exceeded JD 431 million.
Jordan and the United States signed the reciprocal trade agreement last Tuesday to strengthen bilateral economic relations, expand market access for exports from both countries, and facilitate trade between the two nations.
The agreement follows nearly a year of consultations and builds on the long-standing economic partnership between Jordan and the United States, including the Jordan–U.S. Free Trade Agreement, which entered into force on December 17, 2001.
