The Ministry of Public Works and Housing announced the commencement of a major project to improve the rainwater drainage system and carry out comprehensive maintenance on Sheikh Saud Al-Qadi Bridge (Housha Tunnel) in Mafraq Governorate, starting Tuesday. The project’s total cost exceeds half a million dinars, with an estimated duration of five months.

According to the Ministry’s statement on Monday, the project includes the construction of a main drainage line using 1200 mm concrete pipes, the establishment of new drainage and inspection manholes, in addition to excavation, backfilling, and site restoration in accordance with technical specifications.
The Ministry explained that maintenance works will also be carried out on the water facilities inside and around the tunnel to ensure smooth rainwater drainage and prevent water accumulation.
The project comes in response to recurring problems faced by Housha Tunnel during rainy seasons, which have negatively affected traffic flow and public safety. It is expected to improve infrastructure and enhance traffic safety in this vital area.
The Ministry added that temporary traffic diversions will be implemented, with plastic barriers supported by warning and guidance signs. It urged drivers to adhere to the specified speed limits, follow the instructions of work crews and traffic personnel, and exercise caution when passing through the project site.
It is worth noting that Housha Tunnel is one of the key structures on the Irbid–Mafraq road and has witnessed rainwater accumulation in previous years, prompting the Ministry to implement temporary solutions. This project is intended to permanently resolve the issue as part of a series of development projects being carried out by the Ministry to improve road infrastructure across the Kingdom.
