Al-Momani made these remarks during a lecture titled “The Media and Its Role in Promoting the Values of Citizenship in Society,” organized on Tuesday by the Directorate of Education, Military Education, and Culture at Jordan University of Science and Technology. The event was attended by University President Dr. Khaled Al-Salem and Director of Education, Military Education, and Culture Brigadier General Saleh Al-Khalayleh.

Al-Momani said that in light of rapid digital transformations and the increasing flow of information, the media is no longer merely a conveyor of events, but has become an effective tool in shaping public opinion and forming attitudes. He warned of the growing spread of misleading, inaccurate, and false information, stressing the shared responsibility to enhance awareness and verify information through reliable sources.

He explained that conscious citizenship is built on understanding, verification, and responsible participation, underscoring the importance of strengthening Jordanian national identity, fostering social responsibility and volunteerism among youth, and consolidating the values of cooperation, tolerance, and social cohesion as key foundations for building a modern Jordan and enhancing societal resilience.

Al-Momani commended the role of Jordanian universities as national incubators for shaping awareness and building young leadership, urging students to make the most of curricular and extracurricular university activities to become active partners in development and ambassadors of belonging and responsible citizenship within their university and wider community.

He emphasized that empowering youth is at the forefront of the government’s priorities, and that it supports all efforts aimed at preparing aware generations capable of positive participation in the national process of construction and modernization.

Al-Momani also highlighted the importance of critical thinking and verifying information before sharing it, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening channels of dialogue with youth and listening to their views and observations, as they are essential partners in shaping public awareness and participating in the journey of construction, modernization, and reform.

At the conclusion of the meeting, an extensive dialogue took place between Al-Momani and the students, during which he addressed their questions and inquiries regarding the role of the media at the current stage, the challenges facing media discourse in the digital space, and mechanisms for confronting rumors and misleading information.
