Yemeni government forces announced Wednesday the launch of a major military operation against the Houthi group on the southern fronts of Marib province, saying the operation has inflicted casualties and equipment losses on the group.

The Third Military Region said in a statement posted on Facebook, citing a military source, that the operation followed intelligence monitoring of Houthi movements and repeated attempts to infiltrate and target army positions in the southern sector of the province.
The source said the operation began in the early hours of Wednesday and is still ongoing. It has resulted in deaths, injuries and captures among Houthi fighters, in addition to the destruction of military vehicles and equipment belonging to the group.
The source added that army and popular resistance forces had seized several positions previously held by the Houthis and established a fire blockade around their supply lines.
The operation aims to secure the southern border area of Marib province, thwart any Houthi infiltration or attack attempts, and establish new positions to strengthen the government forces' defensive and offensive capabilities.
The source affirmed the readiness of army and popular resistance forces to continue the operation and achieve its objectives, praising the morale of troops stationed on the front lines.
The operation comes as part of a response to what the source described as Houthi “violations” and the group's continued targeting of civilians and military positions on the fronts in Marib province.
