Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates strongly condemned the statements of the far-right Israeli Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, regarding the rejection of establishing a Palestinian state, coinciding with Israel’s announcement of a government plan to expand and build illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank.

The ministry described these statements as a blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, undermining the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination, ending the occupation, and establishing an independent sovereign state along the lines of 4 June 1967, with Jerusalem as its capital, emphasizing that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied West Bank.
Ministry spokesperson, Ambassador Fouad Al-Majali, reiterated Jordan’s absolute rejection and strong condemnation of Israel’s ongoing settlement plans in the West Bank and the unacceptable statements of its officials, which constitute a reinforcement of occupation, settlement expansion, and violations of international law and UN resolutions, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which condemns all Israeli measures aimed at altering the demographic composition, character, and status of the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem.
He also referred to the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion, which confirmed the illegality of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian land and invalidity of settlements and annexation procedures in the occupied West Bank.
Al-Majali called on the international community to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities by compelling Israel to halt its dangerous escalation and unilateral illegal measures in the West Bank, which further restrict Palestinians, and to ensure the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights to establish their independent state on their national land—the only path toward a just and comprehensive peace that guarantees security and stability in the region.
