His Majesty King Abdullah II, during a meeting today, Wednesday, with community leaders and representatives of Ma'an Governorate, reaffirmed that the priority is protecting the nation's interest and advancing everything that serves Jordan and preserves its stability, remarking that "there is no fear for the land of the Nashama."
During the meeting held at Al-Hussein Bin Talal University, His Majesty emphasized that the Nashama of the Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army and the security agencies continue to counter any aggression targeting the Kingdom's airspace and territory.
His Majesty noted that his visit to Ma'an aims to explore opportunities for developing services and infrastructure, directing the government to include this file among its priorities.
The King also highlighted the importance of officials continuing field visits to serve citizens and determine their needs.
His Majesty touched upon his recent visit to the United Kingdom, which focused on enhancing investment opportunities in Jordan, stressing the need to maintain focus on the national economy and build economic partnerships with various countries.
In this context, the King pointed to upcoming visits to several major nations aimed at opening new markets for Jordanian products and attracting quality investments.
For his part, Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan confirmed progress on the Aqaba–Ma'an Dry Port project, which will act as a developmental, logistical, and industrial hub connected to the railway project between Aqaba and Al-Shidiya. He noted that the government will support this project to ensure its viability for the private sector and partners, emphasizing that the Port of Aqaba and the Ma'an Dry Port must be viewed within a unified developmental framework.
He discussed government decisions to address challenges facing investment in the Ma'an Development Zone, such as reducing land prices and electricity costs. He also pointed to a package of measures supporting the tourism sector in Petra to prepare it to regain its tourism momentum and host events to sustain local economic and tourism activity.
Dr. Hassan stated that the first comprehensive school transport project originating from Ma'an and the southern governorates will launch at the start of the upcoming academic year, with plans to expand it later to the central and northern governorates. He added that five new schools have been completed in Ma'an, with six more scheduled for completion next year.
Regarding the Ma'an Military Hospital, the Prime Minister noted that construction on the main building is complete, and the Royal Medical Services are currently equipping it with medical devices to ensure it becomes operational next year. Meanwhile, the blood bank and outpatient clinic building at Ma'an Public Hospital have been completed, and construction has begun on a 5-million-JD Diabetes and Endocrinology Center.
For his part, Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court Youssef Hassan Al-Issawi highlighted the major Royal Initiatives projects executed in Ma'an Governorate, covering education, youth, healthcare, social development, tourism, productive projects, and municipal services.
Governor of Ma'an Khaled Al-Hajjaj welcomed His Majesty, noting that the visit embodies the Hashemite tradition of direct engagement with citizens and monitoring development progress. He stressed that balanced development serves as the essential pillar for building a modern state and strengthening its resilience.
During the meeting, local speakers presented the governorate's primary needs and challenges, emphasizing the importance of developing healthcare, education, agriculture, water, transport, local development, and infrastructure, as well as supporting military retirees and empowering women, while expressing gratitude for the continuous Royal attention given to the governorate and its residents.
Prior to the outreach meeting, His Majesty visited the Al-Qantara Center for Human Resources Development, where he listened to a briefing by the center's director, Rakan Al-Ruwad, regarding its programs and services, which have benefited approximately 51,000 residents from Ma'an Governorate and the Southern Badia.
The King toured the center's facilities, which include halls for English language learning, smart systems design training, electronics and programming fundamentals, and a music room.
His Majesty engaged in conversation with a group of young men and women who benefited from the center's programs, listening to their experiences and how they plan to build upon them to develop the local community.
The outreach meeting was attended by Director of the Office of His Majesty Ala'a Al-Batayneh and His Majesty's Advisor for Tribal Affairs Kni'an Al-Balawi.
