The World Food Programme (WFP) said assistance to Syrian refugees living in host communities in Jordan has remained suspended since April 2026 due to a severe funding shortage.
In its August report, the WFP said it provided food assistance in July to around 81,000 Syrian refugees living inside camps, while assistance to refugees in host communities remained suspended.
According to the report, Syrian refugees living in camps receive JOD 15 per person per month in assistance, a reduced amount that covers only part of their food needs.
The WFP said it needs $28.6 million over the next six months, from August 2026 through January 2027, to meet its operational needs in Jordan.
The number of Syrian refugees registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Jordan stood at 370,200 as of July 2026, according to the report.
The report also noted that 210,308 Syrian refugees returned to Syria between December 2024 and August 2026.
In the area of school feeding, the WFP needs $2.7 million to provide fortified date bars and nutritious meals to around 510,000 students from the most vulnerable groups during the 2026–2027 academic year.
