Islamist party merger gets initial thumbs up, more steps needed — ministry

AMMAN — Secretary-General of the Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Ali Khawaldeh said on Sunday that the ministry’s political party affairs committee has given an initial approval for the proposed “National Coalition Party”, which will be formed from the merger of the National Congress Party “Zamzam” and the Islamic Center Party, according to Ammon news.اضافة اعلان

Khawaldeh said that the committee is awaiting an official request from the Joint Coordination Office, which means that the next stage requires the two parties to rebuild the organizational structure of the merging party and elect the secretary-general, assistants, and branch heads.

Head of the Joint Coordination Office Mustafa Al-Amawi said that a general conference of the two parties will be held within two months to make the final decision to merge the two parties into the new one.

This will be followed by a one-year transitional phase, starting from the date of the official approval of the merger, to begin the stage of arranging the internal financial and administrative procedures of the new party, the organization of its branches and committees, and the affiliation and membership mechanism.

Amawi said that there people are keen to join the party resulting from the merger, adding that strong and effective parties that can lead to future partisan governments are needed, as His Majesty the King’s message made clear.
