Jordan’s total electricity consumption fell by 0.7% last year compared with 2024, according to the latest data released by the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission.
The data showed that total electricity consumption reached 20,230.4 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in 2025, compared with 20,380.38 GWh in 2024.
Several sectors increased their share of total electricity consumption in 2025, while the shares of the residential, commercial and hotel sectors declined.
The residential and regular-use sector remained the largest consumer, with consumption reaching 9,070.6 GWh in 2025, down from 9,418.85 GWh in 2024. Its share of total consumption fell to 45%, from 46% the previous year.
The industrial sector ranked second, with consumption reaching 3,642.1 GWh in 2025, compared with 3,552.86 GWh in 2024. Its share rose from 17% to 18%.
Electricity consumption by the agriculture and water-pumping sector also increased to 2,953.7 GWh in 2025, from 2,900.37 GWh in 2024, raising its share of total consumption from 14% to 15%.
By contrast, consumption by the commercial and hotel sector fell to 2,453.0 GWh in 2025, compared with 2,887.5 GWh in 2024, while its share declined from 14% to 12%.
Street lighting consumption stood at 303.6 GWh in 2025, down from 324.62 GWh in 2024, while its share remained unchanged at 2% of total consumption.
The “other” category, which includes radio and television, the armed forces, the telecommunications sector, vehicle storage facilities, private hospitals and banks, saw consumption rise to 1,807.4 GWh in 2025, compared with 1,296.19 GWh in 2024. Its share increased from 6% to 9%.
Electricity Subscribers
The total number of electricity subscribers served by the three distribution companies reached 2,622,457 in 2025, compared with 2,581,246 in 2024, representing 2% growth.
The number of subscribers to the Jordan Electric Power Company (JEPCO) rose to 1,680,986 in 2025, from 1,646,537 in 2024, an increase of 2%.
Subscribers to Irbid District Electricity Company (IDECO) also increased to 660,297 in 2025, compared with 645,313 in 2024, representing 2% growth.
In contrast, the number of subscribers to Electricity Distribution Company (EDCO) fell to 281,174 in 2025, from 289,396 in 2024, a decline of 3%.
