AMMAN — Head of the Lower House Freedom and Human Rights Committee Bassam Al-Fayez said on Thursday that the committee will invite the government to meet next week to discuss the possibility of issuing a general amnesty, according to AmmanNet.اضافة اعلان

The committee had discussed the possibility of issuing a general amnesty in view of the prevailing economic and social conditions in the Kingdom, Fayez said.

During a meeting held last week, the committee had also discussed the demands of a number of protesters who staged a sit-in in front of the House of Representatives, he said. The committee decided to adopt the demands of the protesters and convey them to the government.

The protesters had called on the government to issue a general amnesty in cases in which the personal right of the complainant is waived and reconciliation between the concerned parties has been reached, he noted. They also called for a review of administrative detention cases.

Fayez pointed out that the committee will hold consultations with the government about these demands and submit a general amnesty petition, especially in light of overcrowding at reform and rehabilitation centers and the difficult conditions that Jordanians are facing.
