Heavy rainfall boosts Jordan’s dams

Filling them with 3,761 cubic meters in 24 hours

AMMAN — According to the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, in collaboration with the Jordan Valley Authority, the dams have received an estimated 3,761 million cubic meters of rainfall and runoff from precipitation in the past 24 hours. This brings the total storage in the 15 main dams to 68,503 million cubic meters, which accounts for 23.78 percent of their total storage capacity of 288,128 million cubic meters. The Ministry stated that there was widespread rainfall across most areas of the Kingdom, resulting in substantial quantities entering the dams by Monday morning. The Al-Fidan Dam in Wadi Araba received the highest recorded amount, reaching its maximum storage capacity of 3,306 million cubic meters or 100 percent. In comparison, the King Talal Dam received 684,330 thousand cubic meters, with a storage percentage of 37.3 percent, and the Mujib Dam received 542 thousand cubic meters, with a storage percentage of 74 percent, Hala reported.
