AMMAN — Former minister of water and irrigation Hazem Al-Nasser dismissed the government’s statements that Jordan is in a critical situation as a result of a lack of water and storage capacity in dams, according to a local news outlet.اضافة اعلان

Nasser said that the delay in implementing water projects worth 800 million euros has exacerbated the water crisis in Jordan. He described the rainy season this year as “excellent”, saying it reached about 90 percent of the annual average rates.

Nasser said that emptying the dams negatively affected their storage capacity, questioning the decision to empty them. He stressed that it was an administrative error that greatly affected the strategic stock.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Water and Irrigation Omar Salameh said that Mafraq is one of the governorates that was subjected to severe pressure on water networks, due to the Syrian refugee camps it houses.
