Starting Sunday, the Ministry of Health will implement a new mechanism for receiving new patients referred from health centers to the outpatient clinics at Zarqa Government Hospital. The move aims to reduce waiting times, speed up diagnoses, and initiate timely treatment. This step follows the directives of the Minister of Health, Ibrahim Al-Bdour, to develop health services in the Zarqa Governorate, and comes after extending working hours at comprehensive health centers surrounding the hospital.

The Director of Zarqa Government Hospital, Dr. Awad Al-Khaza'leh, stated that the new mechanism was developed following a series of field visits by the Minister of Health to inspect outpatient operations and patient waiting times. It also follows up on the results of the extended hours at nearby comprehensive health centers, which enhanced primary healthcare services and reduced the number of emergency room patients, requiring a development of the referral mechanism to specialty clinics to ensure continuous, efficient service.
Al-Khaza'leh explained that the new mechanism responds to the need to reduce waiting times for new, undiagnosed patients, which speeds up diagnosis and treatment while preventing conditions from worsening or developing complications due to delayed follow-ups.
He noted that the plan covers internal medicine, general surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, and ENT clinics. It relies on establishing "three evening clinics per week for each specialty" from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM, increasing the capacity of outpatient clinics and speeding up medical services.
He pointed out that previously, after being evaluated at a health center and referred to specialty clinics, patients would receive appointments ranging from two to three months depending on the specialty, creating a challenge for timely medical care.
Al-Khaza'leh added that the implementation of the new mechanism will reduce the waiting period for referred patients to just one week. He confirmed that the hospital has finalized all necessary technical and administrative arrangements to launch the mechanism, in line with the ministry's plan to improve patient experience, raise health service efficiency, and enhance the quality of care provided to citizens.
