AMMAN — The Consumer Protection Association (CPA) has received complains on fake discounts offered in sales during what Jordanians call “White Friday,” CPA Media Advisor Hussein Al-Amoush said.اضافة اعلان

Al-Mamlaka TV quoted Amoush as saying that the prices of some commodities remained the same before and after the sales.

He urged consumers to check the prices of products before purchasing them, and to compare them to the rates offered before and after discounts.

He also asked merchants to offer real discounts on products.

White Friday is derived from the term “Black Friday,” the sales offered following Thanksgiving in the US, which marks the start of the Christmas shopping season there.

Asad Qawasmi, the clothing, footwear and jewelry sector representative at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, said the commercial activity at malls and big shops was “good” during White Friday, especially in Amman.

He said in comments carried by Al-Rai daily that his syndicate received no consumer complaints during White Friday.

He explained that most shops which announce such sales on White Friday are affiliated with international commercial brands, which knock down their price tags during this time of the year.

He noted that major and international companies “made more profits than small companies, which could not afford to offer big sales.”
