AMMAN — Ministry of Water and Irrigation spokesperson Omar Salameh said that the transition to the issuance of monthly water bills, rather than every three months, strives to reduce financial losses incurred by the ministry and will reduce subscribers’ bills, according to Ammon News.اضافة اعلان

Salameh said that citizens often fail to pay water bills, which makes the ministry incur losses “amounting to about JD325 million”, adding that the ministry is also owed more than JD142 million by individuals owning water wells who do not pay their dues.

Salameh said that citizens who do not wish to pay their water bill on monthly basis have the option of paying every three months.

According to him, charging a monthly bill encourages citizens to save water, consume less, and monitor water infrastructure more regularly.  The monthly bill will start early next year and it will be implemented gradually in all the regions of the country.

He also said that there may be one single bill for water and electricity next year, and confirmed that there is no intention now of raising water prices.
