Speaking at the Government Communication Forum, Al-Hayesa stated that Jordan’s per capita annual water share is 61 cubic meters, far below the global water poverty line of 500 cubic meters. He emphasized that despite these low figures, water reaches all regions of Jordan, supporting agricultural production.
Regarding relations with Syria on water allocations and the Yarmouk Basin, Al-Hayesa confirmed that Jordanian-Syrian agreements are currently in their best state. Both countries are studying ways to fairly divide the Yarmouk Basin waters and revise the 1987 agreement to ensure equitable terms for both sides.
He also noted plans to address climate change by implementing a cloud-seeding project in the basin, citing promising results from studies on the Syrian side. Additionally, Jordan and Syria are developing a joint platform for data sharing and training.
