Jordan’s Minister of Interior, Mazen Al-Faraya, arrived in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Wednesday on the first official visit by an Arab interior minister to Syria since the fall of the previous regime.
Al-Faraya and the accompanying delegation were received at Tishreen Palace by Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab and a number of senior Syrian officials.
Upon his arrival, Al-Faraya stressed the importance of the visit in strengthening bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries across various sectors, particularly in the field of security.
He also condemned the terrorist bombings that recently struck Damascus, reaffirming Jordan’s full solidarity with Syria in confronting violence and the targeting of civilians. He said that his visit, despite the current security situation, reflects the two countries’ commitment to expanding joint cooperation.
Al-Faraya also expressed Jordan’s confidence in the Syrian state’s ability to move forward with reconstruction efforts and to consolidate security and stability.
During the visit, Al-Faraya held extensive talks with Minister Khattab and senior Syrian officials to discuss prospects for bilateral cooperation, including joint training, the development of border crossings, and efforts to combat drug smuggling.
