1,600 International Students Apply to Jordanian Universities in One Month
The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research revealed a remarkable influx of international students applying to Jordanian universities for the current academic year. The number of applicants has reached 1,600 students since the ministry opened admissions early last month up until today. This indicator reflects growing confidence in the level of Jordanian higher education and the quality of its academic programs, supported by electronic facilities provided by the ministry to simplify admission and registration procedures for this category of students.اضافة اعلان

The ministry’s media spokesperson, Muhannad Al-Khatib, said on Thursday that Malaysian students topped the list with the highest turnout, followed by Arab-Israeli students (Palestinians of 1948), then students from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Syria, and finally Iraq.

He explained that this increasing influx of international students reflects the growing confidence in the standard of Jordanian higher education and the quality of its accredited academic programs. He emphasized that the ministry continues to monitor admission and registration procedures to ensure the absorption of international student numbers within the applicable rules and regulations.

Al-Khatib pointed out that Jordanian universities enjoy a distinguished regional status that makes them a preferred destination for international students of various nationalities. He noted that the ministry is moving forward with enhancing cooperation with relevant authorities to facilitate admission procedures for these students and overcome any obstacles they might face during the registration stages.

He stated that this turnout comes in light of the ministry's reliance on the Unified Electronic Admission System for international students, which was launched for the first time starting from the 2024-2025 academic year. He confirmed that all incoming admission applications are currently processed exclusively through this system, in implementation of the Higher Education Council's decision that prohibited official Jordanian universities and colleges from admitting any international student from inside or outside the Kingdom except through it.

He noted that the system grants the international student preliminary or final admission while they are still in their home country, saving them time, effort, and money. It enables them to ensure they meet the admission requirements before coming to Jordan. He added that the registrar general at each university handles the admission procedures and responds to the student within a period not exceeding 3 working days from the arrival of their application.

He indicated that the launch of the system came in implementation of the strategic plan for attracting international students for the years 2023-2027, which was prepared by the ministry in coordination with the Jordan Tourism Board and approved by the Cabinet. Its implementation is monitored by the International Student Attraction Committee, in addition to its alignment with the priority of "developing and implementing a plan to attract international students" within the Economic Modernization Vision.

He explained that the system allows students to obtain an equivalent enrollment certificate from the Ministry of Education via a special portal that verifies their documents and grades. It also enables the offices of cultural attachés and counselors of the students' respective countries to track their citizens' applications electronically, step by step.

He stressed that one of the system's most prominent goals is to eliminate the practices of certain brokers who used to charge international students large sums of money in exchange for securing admissions that were often fake. He noted that the system will also enable the ministry to monitor the countries with the highest demand for Jordanian universities to target them with broader marketing efforts.

Al-Khatib called on international students wishing to apply to visit the "Study in Jordan" website (https://studyinjordan.jo/) to view comprehensive information about Jordanian universities, their programs, and fees before submitting their applications through the unified admission system.
