Japan beats India, China bests Philippines to start Asian cup

AMMAN — Current champion Japan thrashed India 136-46 (first half 66-25) at the beginning of the 29th edition of the Asian Women’s Basketball Cup level A, which will take place from September 27 to October 3, at Prince Hamzeh Hall.اضافة اعلان

South Korea beat New Zealand 85-69 (first half 46-38), while China won 143-52 (first half 69-29) in its match with the Philippines.

The basketball association held the opening ceremony, in which Jordanian singer Violetta Al-Yousef sang the national anthem, and a musical performance for the armed forces was held.

The players entered the court afterwards with players from the national women junior league dressed in traditional Jordanian garb.

The ceremony ended with a falcon, which stands for all the national basketball teams, along with a video showcasing tourist spots in Jordan.  

Tournament matches resume on Tuesday with 4 matches for the second round. New Zealand is set to play Japan at 10am, followed by India playing South Korea at 1pm for group I, while China’s Taipei meets China at 4pm, and finally; the Philippines face Australia at 7pm in group II.
