The first leg of the 2026–2027 Women’s Football Pro League introduced several new young faces who made their debuts in the competition’s eighth edition, which features six teams. Meanwhile, defending champions Al-Ittihad, who have won the title for the past three seasons, maintained their dominance and finished the first leg at the top of the standings with a perfect record.

Al-Ittihad won all five of its matches, preserving its flawless record. However, the closely contested games and results in several fixtures suggested that retaining the title could prove more difficult than in previous seasons.
Young forward Haya Abu Ali emerged as one of the first leg’s biggest discoveries after delivering impressive performances in her debut season in the Women’s Pro League, despite being only 17 years old.
Al-Ittihad head coach Tareq Al-Mahsiri gave the young player a regular starting role this season. She repaid his confidence by becoming one of the team’s key attacking options, with her goals helping secure victories in several matches.
Abu Ali began her campaign with two goals against Al-Istiqlal in a match Al-Ittihad won 5–0. She then scored the only goal in the second-round match against Al-Nasr.
She did not score against Amman FC in the third round, which Al-Ittihad won 3–2, but returned to the scoresheet against Nashama Al-Mustaqbal in the fourth round, helping her team secure another 3–2 victory.
The young forward concluded the first leg with two goals against Al-Orthodox in a match that ended in a 3–2 win for Al-Ittihad, underlining her influence in keeping her team at the top without dropping a single point.
Abu Ali ranked second in the scoring charts with six goals, having scored in four of her team’s five matches. The importance of her goals in deciding results made her one of Al-Ittihad’s standout players during the opening phase of the competition.
Her success has not been limited to the domestic league. Her performances earned her a place in the Jordan women’s national team, coached by Moroccan Lamia Boumehdi, making her the youngest player in the squad. She has featured in more than one match during the team’s last two training camps.
Abu Ali is among the notable players who have represented Jordan’s youth and junior national teams in recent years before establishing herself at both club level and with the senior national team.
In another scoring highlight, the fifth and final round of the first leg saw the league’s first “super hat-trick” of the season. Amman FC forward Arit Ojoho scored four goals against Al-Istiqlal in a match that ended in a 9–0 victory for her team.
The result was the biggest win of the first leg and helped Amman FC establish itself as the league’s strongest attacking side, with 17 goals. The team also had the strongest defense, conceding only four goals.
Ojoho and Abu Ali shared another notable achievement, as they were the only two players to score in four of the five matches played by their respective teams during the first leg, highlighting their consistent attacking contributions.
This season also marked the return of veteran forward Maysa Jabara to domestic football after a series of overseas professional experiences. She joined Amman FC, becoming the third local club she has represented during her career.
Jabara previously played for Amman and Al-Ittihad and won the league title on three occasions. Returning this season, she scored three goals during the first leg, adding her experience to her team’s attacking options.
One of the key developments in the opening phase was the widening title race, whereas previous seasons had largely seen the contest dominated by Al-Ittihad and Amman FC.
Nashama Al-Mustaqbal, who made their first appearance in the competition last season, delivered solid performances during the first leg and showed they could compete with Al-Ittihad and Amman FC in direct encounters. Their progress suggests they could become serious contenders in the next phase.
Match results indicate that the leading teams are relatively close in level, making the upcoming rounds even more significant. Despite Al-Ittihad’s perfect record, the team faced difficulties in some matches, while Amman FC will seek to close the gap by capitalizing on its attacking and defensive strengths.
Al-Ittihad finished the first leg at the top of the standings with 15 points, followed by Amman FC in second place with 12 points and Nashama Al-Mustaqbal in third with nine points.
Al-Nasr and Al-Orthodox shared fourth and fifth places with four points each, while Al-Istiqlal finished bottom without a point after losing all five of its matches.
